Aldous Huxley: Other People’s Lives are Ultimately Unknowable

We will never know everything about someone, but we can choose how we fill the gaps. Most the time we already do but without much conscious thought - through labels and stereotypes mostly. Once we do this, the label becomes the manufactured lens with which we look through, distorting the other person's reality. Not only does this not seek truth, but it also typically leads to a negative assumption.
Alternatively, we can choose to fill the gaps with the most respectful interpretation (i.e. what is the most generous assumption I can make) or we can choose not to fill the gaps at all.
