Addition by Subtraction

Great article — albeit a bit haphazard in the first half, the second half brings it all together and leaves us with some concrete takeaways. At its core this is about inversion — flipping a question on its head and focusing on removing the negative, i.e. instead of adding habits, remove the ones that are doing lots of harm. Instead of thinking about what makes a good decision, think about what makes a bad decision and avoid it. Instead of looking for confirming evidence, look for disconfirming evidence — it is much more telling.
What you will find is inversion often makes life much more straightforward and simple — sometimes we struggle to see what's right, but we are pretty good at knowing what's wrong.
